Congratulations to Dr. Mehdi Ferdowsi, professor of electrical engineering at Missouri S&T, on being named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a prestigious recognition awarded to less than 0.1% of IEEE’s global voting members each year.

“Being elevated to the status of Fellow makes me feel happy, humbled and accomplished,” says Dr. Ferdowsi. “It is an honor to be acknowledged by my peers for my contributions to our field.”

The IEEE Fellow Committee recognized Dr. Ferdowsi for his significant contributions to high-gain converters for renewable energy applications and battery management systems—advancements that are shaping the future of energy and technology.

Dr. Ferdowsi joined Missouri S&T in 2004 as a faculty member in electrical and computer engineering. In 2023, he was named associate dean for research for S&T’s College of Engineering and Computing and serves as the Schlumberger Endowed Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

His impressive career includes serving as a program director for the National Science Foundation’s Division of Engineering Education and Centers from 2020–2022 and earning the NSF CAREER award in 2007 for his work on energy storage units for hybrid vehicles.

Dr. Ferdowsi’s research focuses on renewable energy resources, power electronics, electrification of the transportation industry, wide bandgap devices, and microgrids. He also serves as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics.

He holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, a master’s degree from Sharif University of Technology, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tehran.

Please join us in celebrating Dr. Ferdowsi’s remarkable achievements and this well-deserved honor!
