Steve E. Watkins, Ph.D., a faculty member in Missouri University of Science and Technology’s electrical and computer engineering department, has been named a 2025 IEEE–Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) Advisor of Distinction, a national honor recognizing exceptional service and leadership by HKN chapter advisors.
Watkins serves as advisor to the Gamma Theta Chapter of HKN at Missouri S&T, where he has provided long-term guidance and support to student leaders. His work has focused on mentoring students, sustaining effective chapter operations and promoting HKN’s mission of scholarship, character and service within the campus community.
The Advisors of Distinction recognition was recently introduced by IEEE-HKN to highlight advisors who go above and beyond in supporting their chapters. Honorees are selected for their sustained commitment to student leadership development and their impact on the success and visibility of HKN at their institutions.
In addition to his service with HKN, Watkins has been elected to the Tau Beta Pi Executive Council and will serve as TBP secretary in 2026, reflecting his continued leadership in engineering education and student support at the national level.
The ECE department congratulates Watkins on this recognition and commends his many years of dedicated service to students and professional honor societies at Missouri S&T.
